University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue

For its various events, the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) was seeking a visual solution that would be both modern and functional to represent the institution with impact. The challenge was to create a freestanding indoor monument bearing their illuminated logo, while also ensuring energy autonomy for simplified installation, without relying on conventional power systems. Reflecteur, in collaboration with Agence Secrète, designed an elegant and practical freestanding structure showcasing UQAT’s illuminated channel letters.

Freestanding Illuminated Channel Letters

The structure was designed to be sleek and wire-free, offering a clean and simple presentation. The channel letters that make up the logo are detachable from the base structure, allowing for easy assembly and disassembly depending on the needs of the event. All wiring and electrical components are integrated within the base, ensuring a discreet setup and a smooth visual appearance without disrupting the aesthetic. This design also allows for flexible transportation and adaptability across different event spaces. 

The materials used in the sign’s construction were carefully selected for their lightness, durability, and ability to meet the technical demands of energy autonomy. The base is made of aluminum composite material, while the letters are fabricated from aluminum and translucent white polycarbonate, allowing the LED lighting to diffuse evenly. The use of 7.5-amp batteries enables the sign to operate independently without needing to connect to a power outlet, a significant advantage for temporary event setups. A 120V electrical connection system ensures sufficient power for the LEDs while also allowing convenient battery recharging. 

Measuring 96” x 32”, this freestanding structure stands out as a key signage element at UQAT events. Its modern design and soft, even lighting add an elegant touch to the space while enhancing the university’s visibility and identity at every occasion. By leveraging the latest LED lighting and energy autonomy technologies, this project highlights the importance of flexibility and visual performance in contemporary signage.
