L’ÉCART Artist Centre
As part of her exhibition at L’Écart in Rouyn-Noranda, photographer Sylvie Crépeault enlisted our expertise to create the centerpiece of her project entitled Esprit de clocher (Spirit of the Steeple). This work stands out for its unique visual exploration that blends photography, material, and structure, resulting in a creative fusion where images take shape and come to life in a three-dimensional space. In a spirit of collaboration, the artist and our team ensured the seamless integration of the piece within its environment.

Art Installation
The Esprit de clocher installation is built through the careful layering of photographic images that together form a complex and vibrant whole. Each layer represents an aspect of the region’s history and heritage, creating a visual narrative enriched by the depth brought through superimposed elements. The artist captured the essence of the city and its heritage through photography, and our role was to support Sylvie Crépeault in bringing that vision into tangible form.
We crafted the piece using plastic materials such as PVC and styrene, materials that provide both design flexibility and structural solidity. Digital printing on adhesive vinyl was chosen for its ability to faithfully reproduce the photographs. These prints were then applied to various layers of PVC and styrene, adding texture and depth that enhance the intensity of the overall composition.
Esprit de clocher follows an artistic approach in which visual elements interact with physical space. Playing with light and viewing angles, the images reveal new dimensions depending on the observer’s position. The work invites contemplation and interpretation while offering strong visual impact in the exhibition space.
As the centerpiece of the exhibition, this piece serves as a tribute to local culture—a reflection of Rouyn-Noranda’s identity through Sylvie Crépeault’s photographic lens. The layering of images, materials, and textures turns this work into an exploration of collective memory, history, and the soul of the city.
Reflecteur contributed technical expertise to bring the artist’s vision to life, offering innovative solutions for the fabrication and installation of this unique work. Through close collaboration with the artist, we helped Esprit de clocher take its rightful place in the exhibition, not just as an artwork, but as a meeting point between culture, history, and modernity.
This project highlights the importance of art within the community and its ability to pay homage to local history while reinventing itself through contemporary techniques and materials.
