University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue
UQAT sought to modernize its pylon sign. A bold concept was proposed, featuring a sign structure that echoes the shape of the main campus roofline. The project aimed to create a modern and distinctive sign that harmonizes with the university’s architecture.

Illuminated Pylon Sign
The modernization of UQAT’s pylon sign began with the restoration of the existing structure. It was covered in a black aluminum cladding, giving it a contemporary and elegant appearance. The street number was designed using the “Push Through” technique, where clear acrylic painted on the front protrudes from the alupanel, allowing light to diffuse from the sides of the digits.
A new metallic grey aluminum casing was fabricated to mimic the shape of the UQAT building. This casing, with its sleek and modern lines, blends perfectly with the campus’s overall aesthetic. Channel letters were used for the logo, adding a touch of sophistication and modernity to the entire sign.
